Unemployment tricks to aid President Obama

Last week, the White House claimed that unemployment dropped for the fifth consecutive month to 8.3 percent — the lowest it has been in nearly three years — after adding 243,000 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But financial experts are saying the figures may have been manipulated — and that the significant drop in employment was because of the fact that the federal agency charged with computing key economic data has significantly decreased the number of Americans in the workforce.

“If you hold the workforce participation rate constant over the past year, unemployment would be about 8.9 percent instead of 8.3 percent,” GOP economist Matt McDonald of Hamilton Place Strategies said Monday on CNBC’s Squawk Box. "So it is a weird number that is out there, and I think people have to be looking at that carefully.”

Light Bulb Standards and the Law

Thank you for contacting me about the proposed light bulb efficiency standards, I appreciate hearing from you.
The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 established lighting standards that would effectively phase out the production of some incandescent light bulbs. This provision was scheduled to go into effect January 1, 2012, but was added in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012 (P.L. 112-74) that would restrict the Department of Energy from enforcing the standards.
Indeed, I cosponsored the Better Use of Light Bulbs Act (S. 395, H.R. 2417) This legislation would preserve the right of consumers to purchase incandescent light bulbs and empower families to make their own home lighting decisions. I believe consumers, rather than Washington bureaucrats, should have full power to determine which light bulbs they want to installed in their own homes.

Fast and Furious program

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Stanczak,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the "Fast and Furious" program of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). As your Congressman, it is beneficial for me to hear your thoughts on this important issue.

In 2005, the ATF established a program known as Project Gunrunner under the Bush administration with bipartisan support. Mainly intended to stop firearm trafficking along our Southwest border, this initiative was part of the Department of Justice's (DOJ) broader "Southwest Border Initiative" to reduce illegal drugs and firearm trafficking.

In 2009, Project Gunrunner initiated the "Fast and Furious" operation to track small-time gun buyers to gain evidence against major Mexican drug cartels. Recently, it was alleged the ATF facilitated the sale of 2000 firearms to Mexican traffickers. Only 600 have been recovered by officials at this point.

Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA), Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, initiated a congressional probe into this matter. The committee released a report in June 2011 that found the DOJ and ATF knew early on these guns were being trafficked, ATF agents were required to abandon their "follow the gun" training, and ATF agents complained to leadership about letting these guns go and were silenced.

The key officials overseeing "Fast and Furious" Kenneth Melson and Dennis Burke have both resigned after this investigation and 20 more people have been charged. Chairman Issa has vowed to thoroughly investigate this operation. Please be assured, I will monitor this issue closely and hope all involved in this unfortunate abuse of power and government resources are brought to justice.

House Republicans Won’t Let Government Dictate Light Bulb Choice

Members of Congress saw the light and heeded Americans’ pleas today as House Republicans saved powerful incandescent light bulbs from the scrapheap.

“It’s a little ray of sunshine, of natural light,” Texas Rep. Michael Burgess, a Republican who had led the fight against the ban, told Newsmax.

Traditional 100-watt bulbs were to have been outlawed, beginning Jan. 1, to be replaced by more expensive — and allegedly more efficient — compact fluorescent bulbs. House Republicans managed to sneak language into a massive 1,200-page spending bill that would overturn the ban and save the old-style pear-shaped bulbs.

Burgess said he can understand why the federal government can tell him what light he must use when he is at work in a federal building. “But that is not the same as telling me what bulb to use in my lamp when I am at home, reading.

“I make decisions on how much energy I use and how much,” he added. “I drive a hybrid car, not because the government tells me to, but because I want to as I get better mileage.

“I installed dimmer switches in my house in 2005 because it was the reasonable thing to do, not because the government told me to.”

The fight against the ban hit a nerve with the American people, Burgess added. “They feel exactly as I do. We want to have the option,” he said.

Rep. Fred Upton, chairman of the House Energy Committee, was also pleased with the decision. He told Newsmax, "We heard the message loud and clear from Americans who don't want government standards determining how they light their homes.

“New lighting options are great news for the public, but the lesson is that markets and consumer demand are the best drivers of innovation and new choices," said Upton, a Michigan Republican.

Conservatives had complained that the proposed ban was a typical example of government overreach. Rep. Michele Bachmann managed to make overturning the ban a presidential campaign debating point. “President Bachmann will allow you to buy any light bulb you want,” the Minnesota congresswoman told the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans in June.

During an earlier stop in New Hampshire, she even said using the old-style bulbs was patriotic. “Thomas Edison did a pretty patriotic thing for this country by inventing the light bulb, she said. “And I think darn well, you New Hampshirites, if you want to buy Thomas Edison's wonderful invention, you should be able to!"

The bill was passed by the House this afternoon. The wording does not actually amend the 2007 law that phased out the bulbs, but instead prohibits the administration from spending any money to enforce light bulb standards.

The reprieve will last only until the end of September -- unless it is extended further.

The decision angered many Democrats. Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico posted on Twitter that he “strongly opposed” the wording in the spending package “I hope it’s deleted from any final bill that we pass,” he said.

Environmental groups and light bulb manufacturers such as General Electric also supported the ban.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the `National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011'.
SEC. 2. FINDINGS.
The Congress finds the following:
(1) The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States protects the fundamental right of an individual to keep and bear arms, including for purposes of individual self-defense.
(2) The Supreme Court of the United States has recognized this right in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, and in the case of McDonald v. City of Chicago, has recognized that the right is protected against State infringement by the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
(3) The Congress has the power to pass legislation to protect against infringement of all rights protected under the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
(4) The right to bear arms includes the right to carry arms for self-defense and the defense of others.
(5) The Congress has enacted legislation of national scope authorizing the carrying of concealed firearms by qualified active and retired law enforcement officers.
(6) Forty-eight States provide by statute for the issuance to individuals of permits to carry concealed firearms, or allow the carrying of concealed firearms for lawful purposes

Insiders and political pros never recognize a superstar when they see one. Herman Cain is just such a star. Now that Rick Perry has been unmasked as a weak debater and an even weaker opponent of illegal immigration, conservatives are turning their lonely eyes to Cain. A stellar debate performance on Fox News led to a smashing victory in the President5 straw poll in Florida and a strong third place finish -- behind Romney and Perry -- in the Michigan straw poll. Both Michigan and Florida are likely among the seven states that will hold primaries or caucuses in February (and they are the two biggest of the seven).

Here is a man who offers an alternative to Obama's class warfare. His life story shows that Obama's route to the top -- through affirmative action, community organizing, and a climb up the political ladder -- is not the only one available to minorities. His combination of hard work in the private sector, entrepreneurial initiative, and managerial skill can also get you there. He embraces the successful as role models not as objects of envy. He does not hate rich people. He wants us all to become rich.

In a sense, Cain's rise and Mitt Romney's are parallel trajectories. Each has based his appeal on the idea that life in the private sector is better than a career in government service to equip one to solve America's economic problems. Both say that their hands on experience at job creation qualify them to be president in a way that Perry's lifelong political immersion does not.

Now, as Perry fades and Romney rises, Herman Cain is on the cusp of front tier status in the Republican nominating contest.

Cain has a grip on the Tea Party grassroots. No matter how diligently the establishment tries to ignore him, he keeps popping up, impelled by his charisma, oratory, issue positions, and broad based appeal.

Grassfire Nation has learned that Gibson Guitars, a Nashville, TN based company has been raided twice by federal marshals over the last number of weeks over the type of wood used in their guitars.

Despite the fact that no charges have been filed, the government did confiscate product and shutdown Gibson
production, putting hundreds of real jobs in jeopardy!

A review of the law in question also makes illegal the purchase, ownership and resale of Gibson guitars.

During each spending binge the federal government has been making promises, but how have they done?

1: Promise: If we pass a stimulus package, unemployment won’t go above 8%.
Result: What did we get for our nearly $800,000,000,000 dollars? Unemployment remains above 9% and more than 14 million people remain out of work with another 30 million people who are still underemployed. The latest job report shows that the economy has gained exactly 0 jobs in the last month.

2: Promise: The only way that we could open up the credit markets for regular Americans was to pump trillions of dollars into the banks.
Result: The banks pocket trillions of dollars both directly and indirectly (through 0% interest loans from the FED), but credit remains nearly impossible to attain for most Americans. Housing market remains deflated because Americans are unable to qualify for home loans.

3: Promise: ObamaCare will reduce insurance premiums for all Americans and if you like your insurance you will be able to keep it.
Result: After passage, premiums skyrocket and this increase forces many businesses to stop offering insurance at all.

The Homosexual Classrooms Act;Legal Name “Student Non-Discrimination Act,”

The act contains a laundry list of anti-family provisions that will:
*** Require schools to teach appalling homosexual acts so “homosexual students” don’t feel “singled out” during already explicit sex-ed classes;
*** Spin impressionable students in a whirlwind of sexual confusion and misinformation, even peer pressure to “experiment” with the homosexual “lifestyle;”
*** Exempt homosexual students from punishment for propositioning, harassing, or even sexually assaulting their classmates, as part of their specially-protected right to “freedom of self-expression;”

Obama Springs 'Sneak Amnesty' with Congress on Vacation

Congress may be on vacation, but we're in full-on crisis mode! After a brutal battle about the debt ceiling, many Members of Congress left Capitol Hill thinking their work for the summer would be over.
But then, the Obama Administration announced the postponement of virtually ALL deportations of non-violent illegal aliens already ordered by U.S. immigration courts.
Think this is bad? Well it gets worse!
Not only will President Obama let these 300,000 illegal aliens ignore their deportation orders, he has begun giving these illegal aliens work visas to compete with U.S. workers! That's right. These 300,000 (and more!) illegal aliens will not be going back to their home countries, even though a U.S. judge had ordered them to go. Instead, they will be given a free pass and maybe a work visa to compete with 22 million Americans who cannot find full time work.

SENATE DEBT DEAL IS A FRAUD!

The new Gang of Six proposal brewing in the Senate is a total sellout which promises to usher in a vast new round of new taxes. Not just closing of loopholes, but real live taxes we will all have to pay.

The proposal is based on the recommendations of the Bowles-Simpson Deficit Reduction Commission as modified by the "Gang of Six" US Senators. It plans to raise $1 trillion in new tax revenues. While the gang is vague on the details of the new taxes, the Bowles-Simpson Commission was quite clear - it proposes the virtual elimination of all tax deductions, certainly for taxpayers with joint incomes of over $200,000 and possibly for everyone. The revenues it would generate from eliminating or sharply curtailing the mortgage interest, charitable, and state and local tax deductions are set to generate $1 trillion of new revenues over ten years and to finance a vague and unspecified hoped for cut in the top tax bracket.

The elimination or significant curtailment of these deductions would have a ruinous economic impact.

Cutting out the mortgage interest deduction would cost American taxpayers almost $100 billion a year. It would decimate the already moribund real estate sector and would make their current homes unaffordable for millions of homeowners by changing the financial rules in the middle of the game.

Restricting or eliminating the state and local tax deduction is, in effect, to levy a 25-35 percent surcharge on state and local taxes - income and property - hammering people who live in high tax states. The cost in jobs and state revenues are likely to be staggering.

Limiting the charitable donation deduction is the unkindest cut of all since it hurts precisely the poor people Obama and the Democrats say they most want to help. They apparently only favor help to the poor when it comes through the government and buys their votes.

But the most dangerous part of the proposal is that to establish a commission to monitor the deficit reduction measures to assure that they unfold as planned. Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND), Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, has been pushing

The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska . I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here.


1. Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor's office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski , she tore into the Republican's "Corrupt Bastards Club" (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing, "la la la la" (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar.

2. Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called "ACES." Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them, "don't let the door hit you in the stern on your way out." They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course, the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.

3. The other thing she did when she walked into the governor's office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as "pork." She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the "when-hell-freezes-over" stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we'll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor's jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor's cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State-provided security force (never mentioning - I imagine - that she's packing heat herself). I'm still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.

4. Now, even with her much-ridiculed "gosh and golly" mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.

5. For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. Then, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.

6. President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewable by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona. Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that's just a cover-up. I'm still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won't be holding my breath.

By the way, she was content to return to Alaska after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn't let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.

You have just read the truth about Sarah Palin that sends the media, along with the Democrat party, into a wild uncontrolled frenzy to discredit her. I guess they are only interested in skirt chasers, dishonesty, immoral people, liars, womanizers, murderers, and bitter ex-presidents' wives.

We can do without Libya's two million barrels a day of oil albeit with significant disruptions in the global economy. But if we lose Saudi Arabia's nine million, we will face a global catastrophe.

And the Saudi monarchy will be the next casualty of the Middle East revolutionary wave. The king is 86 years old and very ill. The next two men in line are both over 80 and both sick. And, behind those three in line are 7,000 princes, each ambitious and at war with one another. The monarchy will not be able to buy off the opposition for long with cash subsidies. (We are indebted to Bret Stephens of the Wall Street Journal for these insights).

The fall of Saudi Arabia will accelerate the stagflation that will mar the final two years of the one-term Obama Presidency.

Republicans need to ratchet up their rhetoric about new drilling for oil. The 2008 liberal counter-argument that new drilling is not a short term solution begs the question of why the Administration has not used the intervening two years to effectuate the longer term solution that it offered.

Republicans need to be more vocal in criticizing the Administration for its defacto moratorium on off-shore drilling. Obama's people are so sensitive to these criticisms that they just approved the first permit since the BP spill.

Republicans must call for reining in the regulatory hoops that on-shore slate drilling has to go through to get approval.

Republicans should press for much, much shorter approval times for nuclear power and a ban on EPA regulation and taxation of carbon and coal.

The Party should attack Obama's proposed elimination of the Oil Depletion Allowance and other energy tax breaks and make clear that these incentives are vital for new energy development.

Finally, the Republicans should resurrect the issue of drilling in the ANWR Preserve in Alaska.

Sarah Palin should take the lead in this critique since energy development is her major field of real substantive expertise. It is an ideal opportunity for her to speak to a broader constituency.

Republicans should also propose a moratorium on the federal gas tax by passing legislation in the House to trigger a reduction once gas goes above $4 and total suspension if it rises above $5 per gallon. When the price drops again below $4, the gas tax can come back on line. Such a proposal will mean a cessation of campaign funding from highway contractors, but so be it.

Obama's opposition to fossil fuels is his real Achilles Heel. At some level of gas prices, everybody is for fossil fuel development. Nobody is "green" at $6 a gallon!

Hillary Clinton pimps Al Jazeera over American news

Hillary Clinton has produced some pretty outrageous sounds bites over the years, but she outdid herself recently when she declared that America is losing to Al Jazeera because they are up in the ratings and we can't compete with 'real' news like them. Her solution? Have a stronger government TV news operation - just like they do in China and Russia. How many times has that thought crossed your mind: 'if only we had a media more like China - THEN we'd be set'.
Is Al-Jazerra now the most trusted name in news? Well, that’s what Hillary Clinton and other leftist leaders are saying. The network has been gaining popularity ever since the events in Egypt, but people seem to be ignoring it’s very anti-American stance. Glenn reacted on radio this morning.
Glenn played audio of Hillary Clinton saying, “ In fact, viewership of Al-Jazeera is going up in the United States because it’s real news. You may not agree with it, but you feel like you’re getting real news around the clock instead of a million commercials and arguments between talking heads and the kind of stuff this we do on our news which, you know, is not particularly informative.”
Pat joked, “Imagine having both sides presenter and the viewer would have to make the decision.”
“We knew it was the propaganda arm of the Middle East and Islamic extremism. We knew it. Now suddenly we’re all saying, oh, yeah, Al-Jazeera, there’s real news for you,” Glenn said.
“Why does she say you may not like it? Because they hate America and everything they do has that spin and they begin from that standpoint with every single story. America is the great satan. I was going to say, let’s not forget. They have talking heads, too. The talking heads are through their contacts, videos of Osama bin Laden and the greatest terrorists on earth because they’re playing them all the time,” Stu said.
“Who is their talking head on election night here in America? Do you know?” Glenn asked.
Glenn explained, “It was Robert McChesney who was saying we should have a PBS, robust, national PBS. We should pour more money into that. Let’s get rid of all the commercials and everything else. That’s who he goes over to help them with their coverage. That’s who they go for. He helps them and now everybody in the press, and our own press is saying, we should watch Al-Jazeera. No, we shouldn’t. If we’re not covering it right start covering it right.”
Pat dissected Hillary’s statement. He said, “You have the commercial aspect which the evil corporations are making money on their newscasts. That’s wrong. We know making money is awful. When these corporations are making money on news, that’s even worse. You’ve got debate. You don’t have the talking heads battling back and forth. We don’t want debate, and you have legitimizing a Middle Eastern news source that is completely skewed and not real news. Not real news.”
She is not legitimizing them. She is promoting them. The numbers are going up. Why? Because it’s real news. You have the Secretary of State of the United States of America saying you cannot get real news here in America. You can only get it from Al-Jazeera and everybody knows it. This is insanity,” Glenn said.

The Promise Of America Is. . . Socialism? That’s exactly what is being taught in many American public schools.
Under the guise of teaching children to read, the seeds of Socialism are being planted within the minds of young children. Do you believe that the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States mandates the following?
The People’s basic needs must be met in a country. Needs for housing, education, transportation, and health care overseen by our government system.
Those are the words being chanted over and over and over by school children around the country. They are part of an educational program called Building Fluency Through Practice and Performance. This section is called ‘The Promise of America’ and it breaks down the fifty-two word single sentence that is the Preamble. Here is the original:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Disguised as a reading exercise, the Preamble has been turned into a five page choral project with commentary planted inside this very simple sentence. Here is an example. Make note of what the children (R5, R6, & R7) are being asked to read after the words ‘promote the general welfare’:
“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare,
R7: People’s basic needs must be met in a country.
R5: Needs for housing, education, transportation, and health care are overseen by our government system.
R6: Labor laws ensure that people work in safe environments and that they are paid fairly for the work that they do.”

Senate bill could lead to overturn of Roe v. Wade

Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) is sponsoring the "Life at Conception Act" (S.91), which will define personhood from the moment of conception. Sen. Wicker has 13 co-sponsors thus far.
In Harry Blackmun's 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, he wrote that "if personhood is established, the appellant's case (i.e., 'Roe'), of course collapses, for the fetus' right to life is then guaranteed specifically by the [14th] amendment."

DID OBAMA FORGET ABOUT THE TEACHERS UNION?

When Obama started to speak about the need to improve education, upgrade our schools and attract quality teachers, an elephant appeared in the living rooms of most Americans who were watching. Obama never mentioned the beast, but most of the country saw clearly the three letters on his back -- AFT. American Federation of Teachers -- the union that, along with its counterpart, the NEA, National Education Association, has destroyed public education in America.

How can we take seriously any proposal to improve schools that does not deal with the force that has dragged them down -- the teachers union?

Detroit is a great example of the damage they have wrought. Due to the costs imposed by the union, the public school system has already had to close 59 of its 200 schools, and another 70 are slated for closure. The result will be eighth-grade classes of 40 children and high school classes predicted to have more than 60 students.
