In this picture (of the crash that Doug describes in his letter) the left rear side of his truck is the only part resting on what’s left of the guardrail, and the left front corner of his truck is resting on the small trailer that had been being towed by another pick-up involved in the crash.
Under the roadway there are aluminum beams (about 3 ½” wide) that are spaced about four feet apart, they support the guardrails. The guardrail had been totally broken away in about a 15 foot section.
