This is why the police officers need to understand that their radio is faster than a Mazda and it won't kill a child riding along in their family car.

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) - A Saturday afternoon chase left a 4-year-old boy dead and sent four others to the hospital.

The accident happened just before 1 p.m. in Vincennes.

It all started when Knox County Sheriff Deputy John Fuller attempted to pull over a Mazda for traffic violations.

The Mazda continued driving, running through the intersection of 17th and Busserson.

Deputy Fuller followed the Mazda through the intersection and that's when the deputy's car hit the rear of a Dodge Caravan that was driving through the intersection.

Jordan Walls, 4, died from head injuries he received in the crash.

Kendall Kirby, 12, is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Michael Kirby, 34, was taken by medical helicopter to an Evansville hospital. He's being treated for serious injuries.

Barbara Forney, 26, the driver of the Dodge Caravan, and Deputy Fuller were taken to Good Samaritan for minor injuries.

Police do not believe they were wearing seat belts.

The police have not said what happened to the Mazda.

The crash in still being investigated.
