Indiana's 8th Congressional District

Another showdown will take place in the “Bloody Eighth”, as this district has come to be known because of its hard-fought and tight political races as well as its opposition towards incumbents.

The seat was left vacant after incumbent Brad Ellsworth (D) (who received an “F” on our scorecard) decided to run for the US Senate seat to replace Evan Bayh (D).

Dr. Larry Buschon won the Republican nomination and is running for office for the first time.

The Democratic candidate, Trent Van Haaften, is an attorney and Indiana legislator.  Van Haaften is running as a “blue dog” who supports gun rights and small business tax relief and opposes cap and trade, but he also supports Obamacare and opposes free trade.

"Van Haaften is running as a “blue dog” who supports gun rights and small business tax relief and opposes cap and trade, but he also supports Obamacare and opposes free trade."

Notice the conflect of interest between small business tax relief and Obamacare; tax relief replaced with a much larger tax.

The only time there is such a thing as a "Blue Dog" democrat is during the election cycle then once in office they have a history of falling into the party line and vote as they are told.

Van Haaften supports not only big government but appears to have his sights trained on private enterprise like the government take over of our health care system.

In my opinion there is no such thing as a "Blue Dog" just as there is no such thing as a liberal republican and both are just terms used to get elected then quickly forgotten until the next election cycle.

Interesting what you say here. I used to be a 'conservative' Democrat until recently when I discovered a person couldn't be that anymore, so I registered Republican. But I am not a 'liberal' Republican, just somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. Party has no meaning to me when it comes to local elections (unlike a lot of people I know). State and national candidates usually seem to be more strongly aligned to the party lines. Maybe not so much this year tho and this election seems to be a good time to get some people in office who deserve to be there. Looking back on the candidates record will tell us a lot if we just realize and understand it and vote for what we know is right.
