Bicknell Board of Public Works

BICKNELL - Board of works members here addressed requests from the city police department and approved a request for additional lighting at both city parks.

Police Chief Paul Jones asked the board to approve the purchase of three radios for some vehicles on the police fleet.

Jones said two vehicles already have the new radios and with the purchase of three more radios, the city would only have one other car to outfit.

Board members approved the purchase of three radios from Tri-State Communications, Evansville, for nearly $5,000.

Jones also told the board that one of the city's officers, Lawrence "Butch" Meyers, would be away for several weeks at the Indiana Police

Academy.

The board asked Jones to look into hiring an officer part-time until Meyers returned.

Lastly, board members heard a request for assistant clerk Brenda Flickinger to increase the lights at South Side Park.

Flickinger brought the issue before the city council in September 2008 and it was approved.

"I never followed through on the contracts or anything with it so I wanted to bring it before the board again," Flickinger said.

Flickinger said when she met with Roger Swain, a representative with Duke Energy, last fall, he suggesting upgrading the lights in the park in order to ward of vandalism.

Flickinger asked the board to upgrade100 watt light bulbs to 150 watt bulbs.

"We could also possibly look into installing motion sensors out there," she said.

She said that it would double the amount of light for a little less that $6 a month on the east park and nearly $5 a month on the west park near the ball diamonds.

It appears that Jennifer Gordon believes that Brenda Flickinger can time travel; I don't, so I find it difficult to believe that Brenda took anything up with the city council 5 months in the future.

It appears that the police chief is planning to equip 6 police cars with radios and the council agrees with him. Lets see less population more cars; a good plan.

Yep Brenda Flickinger seems to have a good plan we'll run the people out of town with high costs perpetrated on the public by her and the last administration and now by her and her husband but we'll bring the people back with more park lights and motion sensors.

Roger Swain, a representative with Duke Energy, apparently agrees that the cost to Bicknell and the profit for Duke coincide. Yep there's nothing like a motion sensor to discourage vandalism except for the part where the vandals break the lights and toss things at the sensors. Who knows maybe some of the 6 police cars could patrol the parks; all but one will be radio equipped. I guess Duke is right what does $5.00 or $6.00 per month matter to a town whose citizens can't afford to live in any longer; by the way Brenda is that per bulb or a combined cost? Maybe the mayor could do some painting and we can elect him governor.
