Dear Friend,
With so many Hoosier struggling to meet the rising cost of gas, groceries, health care and other necessities, I wanted to remind retirees, disabled veterans, and low-wage workers that there is still time to claim your economic stimulus rebate if you haven’t already done so. Unfortunately, many folks who are
eligible to receive rebates have not claimed their checks. In Indiana alone, over $27 million has gone unclaimed.
To be eligible for a rebate, 8th District Hoosiers must have a valid Social Security number and $3,000 of income in 2007. Eligible Hoosiers filing individually will receive between $300 and $600, while those filing jointly will receive between $600 and $1200. Individuals with dependent children are also eligible for an additional $300 for each qualifying child.
To claim your check, retirees, disabled veterans, and low-wage workers, who are not normally required to file an income tax return, must complete and file a 1049A tax form with the Internal Revenue Service. The form is available at most post offices and libraries, and must be submitted by October 15th.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Please don’t hesitate to contact my office if I can provide you with any additional information on your economic stimulus check.
Sincerely,
Brad Ellsworth
